Update from Gov. Asa Hutchinson during today's press conference - The start of the 2020-21 school year in Arkansas is now moved back to Aug. 24, to no later than Aug. 26. Gov. Hutchinson said the change in date, with schools scheduled to start Aug. 13, was to give school districts an opportunity to get more prepared on the issue.

AAA Announced:

The Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Elementary and Secondary Education has approved the Paris School District Graduation Plan based on strict adherence of the following conditions. Graduation will be held 10:00 am Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Football Stadium. The main gate will open at 8:30 am. Each graduating senior will be given six (6) tickets for admission, only a person with a ticket will be admitted to the stadium: No Exceptions. Families should enter as a group through the main entrance and sit together. Hand sanitizer stations will be available at the entrance and within the stadium. The bleacher area will be cleaned and disinfected before the ceremony. The home side bleachers will be marked for areas where the families must sit together, the areas will be six (6) feet apart. Every other row will be left open. The visitor bleachers will not be open. Every person over the age of ten (10) will be required to wear a mask for the entire graduation program. Students and faculty will be seated on the field at six (6) ft intervals. Once the ceremony is over guests are required to leave the stadium immediately, congregating within the stadium area is not allowed. The ceremony will be live streamed to a YouTube link to be published a week before the ceremony. It will also be recorded with each senior receiving a copy. There is no doubt that the last quarter of the 2019-20 school year has been unlike any other in recent memory. The seniors have been deprived of many events that are a part of the experience of the last year of school (sports, prom, competitions, etc.). As I have talked with several of them certainly they are disappointed but they have met the challenges head on with determination, grace and resilience. Unfortunately these seniors are learning the hard lesson early that life isn't fair and difficult circumstances will present in life that must be faced and overcome. They are doing this now and, speaking for the Paris School District we are extremely proud of them. We have no doubt that they will continue to meet their challenges and be successful. We are very happy that the graduation plan was approved and at least one rite of passage can happen with some normalcy. Wayne Fawcett Superintendent, Paris Schools

Virtual Yearbook Signing Form - You may fill in the form multiple times. Because we have to keep our social distance, here's a way to "sign" each other's PMS yearbook without touching each other's yearbook! In fact, you don't even have to HAVE a yearbook to leave each other messages! Pick the student (or staff member), leave your message, repeat. THAT'S IT! You have ONE WEEK! At Midnight on April 21, 2020, I'll turn the form off. No more submissions. I'll put all of the messages you receive on a single google document and share it with just you. If you got a yearbook, I'll print those messages and put it with your book. Yearbooks will be distributed next week, so watch your email & social media for time and place. #wearepariseagles #bettertogether    xxx's & ooo's Mrs. Canada

Hello all!  PHS Yearbooks will be passed out in the next couple of weeks. We have created a way for you to still virtually sign yearbooks! Use this form to send messages to your friends! Anyone is welcome to send messages to PHS students.  The Google Form will be closed at the end of the day on Monday, April 27, 2020. At this time the responses will be sorted by student and printed and put in your yearbook before they are handed out and they will also be sent to each student digitally. The messages will remain private. Only Miss Bennett and the student receiving the message will be able to read them.  Yearbook signings are such an important tradition and we hope that this will help the tradition to continue. REMEMBER: Anyone can fill out this form for any Paris High School student or teacher. Feel free to share this form on social media to get more responses from classmates, family members, and any other important people in your life!  Take care and look for information soon about when and how to receive your yearbook!  Miss you all!  https://forms.gle/2CrbhupgXXFxJ3HB8 -- Molly Bennett FBLA Adviser/Yearbook Sponsor Paris High School 2000 East Wood Street Paris, AR 72855 1-844-963-3243 #wearepariseagles

Today is Census Day! Taking the census is a simple way to make a big difference for your community for years to come. The census determines how billions of federal dollars are distributed to our communities for things like health care, education, anti-hunger programs, infrastructure, Head Start, adoption assistance--the list goes on and on! Basically, the census is about our future. It only takes 10 minutes, but it will impact the next 10 years! https://my2020census.gov/

As everyone knows the issue with COVID-19 is developing and changes quickly. Today Governor Hutchinson held his daily press conference to update the public on current issues. The Governor, citing CDC guidance did NOT close schools statewide. Consequently, at the present moment we will plan to have school on Monday and will assess each day. However, effectively immediately we are implementing the following in the Paris School District and will remain in effect until further notice: 1. Parent-Teacher conferences will be held remotely only. The schedule will remain the same, 2-7 pm with teachers available if parents want to talk to them. Understandably there will be some overlap, just as there is when parents visit schools. Parents may contact you by email, Zoom, etc. If you have shared your phone number you may expect texts etc. You are NOT obligated to talk with parents on your personal phone. However, each classroom does have a phone and you may be contacted on the classroom phone. 2. Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 we will not allow any outside visitors in the schools. NO EXCEPTIONS. Parents may go only to offices. This prohibition includes eating lunch with students and will include mentors, parents, visitors, etc. Effective immediately we will prohibit outside food from being brought to the schools. 3. All activities are cancelled until further notice. The Arkansas Activities Association has postponed all interscholastic contests until March 30. Field trips, concerts, events, etc. are cancelled until further notice. Activities contained within the buildings may continue.  4. ALL teachers should have at least 10 days of AMI (Alternative Method of Instruction) ready to be used at a moments notice. Today I met with principals and other pertinent staff. It is possible that we would have to close schools very quickly at which time we will institute our AMI plans. IF teachers are at home during this time they should be available to students via email or other methods that have been agreed upon at your respective buildings. 5. We will address large group activities such as Kindergarten graduation and High School graduation at a later date. This is an extremely quickly changing situation. As we get guidance from ADE, CDC, etc. we will make further decisions. We will keep you apprised of any changes as soon as possible. RWF

News from the PES P.E. department! We are having lots of fun in our P.E. classes this school year. We have played some super fun games…some that we already knew and some that are new to us. We have really enjoyed “Football Tag”, “Zombie Tag”, “4 Corner Bowling”, “Hoop It Up”, and “3 Stooges” in 1st -4th grades. Kindergarten has had fun learning “Turtle Turnover”, “Spot Elimination”, “Clean Up the Room”, “Bean Bag Tag”, and “Mousetrap”. There is always lots of physical activity with the Rattlesnake Run, Exercises, and Stations. The week of March 9 – 13 will be our “Jump-A-Thon and Sing-A-Long”. Our theme for this year is “Sports”. We hope our families will be able to join us during this week for some entertainment and jumping rope.

Paris Middle School recently held a pet food drive, collecting hundreds of pounds of pet food, treats and accessories for our local FurGet Me Not foundation. The students brought in donations of pet food and supplies in exchange for a "present" to put on the teacher they wanted to wear the elf suit for a day. The "winning" teacher that donned the elf attire today was Mr. Jeremy Drymon, PMS band instructor! What a sport! #wearepariseagles

PES 4th grade students in Mrs. Ivey's STEM class have been learning about balanced and unbalanced forces. They recently had the opportunity to test out the phenomenon known as Bernoulli's Principle. Students used various materials (index cards, paper plates, paper clips, tape, etc) to make a ping pong ball levitate in air blown through a straw. Meet our Eagle family! Today, we would like to introduce Mrs. Andrea Robertson, our Middle School Counselor. Andrea graduated from Arkansas Tech University with her Bachelor’s and later completed her Masters at the University of Central Arkansas. She has been in education for 22 years. She is married with two daughters. She enjoys spending time watching sporting events, being outside, going to the beach and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Robertson chose Paris because “my family lives here. Growing up in Lavaca, I would spend most weekends with my grandparents and cousins in Paris and knew this is where I wanted to be. I did my student teaching at PES and knew it was a great place to raise a family. After I started my teaching job, my husband and I built our house in Paris and have raised our kids here. October 21-25th, 2019 is National School Bus Safety Week! Some 25 million students nationwide begin and end their day with a trip on a school bus. Designed for safety, with flashing lights, giant mirrors, stop-sign arms and that bright yellow color, students are 70 times more likely to get to school safely when taking a school bus, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. School buses are designed to protect students through compartmentalization – closely spaced seats and high, energy-absorbing seat backs. For bus safety tips, visit https://www.nsc.org/home-safety/tools-resources/seasonal-safety/back-to-school/bus. #wearepariseagles
